European Under 18s 3000 metres champion Katie Pye ran the fastest leg when she anchored Aldershot Farnham & District to the South of England under-17 women’s road relay title at Rushmoor Arena on Saturday. She set off in fifth, eight seconds behind Ava James who moved Lewes from fourth into the lead before being overtaken by Pye despite running the second fastest leg. Lottie Quinn and Maya Jobbins were the other members of the AFD trio that took gold with seven seconds to spare.
The club’s senior women were always in the frame on the way to their four-stage title. Kate Estlea-Morris promoted them to second after taking over from Millie Jordan-Lee. It was Maddie Jordan-Lee who took them into the lead that was maintained by Pippa Roessler on the anchor. AFD’s over-50 men led from the first leg where Simon Cooper clocked what turned out to be the fastest time of the race. Darren Atkins, Darren Bradley and Mark Symes compiled an advantage of more than a minute over silver medallists Herne Hill Harriers. The club’s over-40 women were bronze medallists with Ruth Wallace, Sarah Rollins and Lesley Locks while the over-50s’ team of Amy Kerr, Melanie Wiles and Emma Pearson also finished third in their age group.
