Like all athletics clubs, Aldershot Farnham & District AC relies on volunteers and people who give freely of their time to make the club a success. Without volunteers AFD would not be able not be able to function.
If you think you can spare us some of your time, expertise or experience please get in touch. For more details on roles with clubs, please also see the England Athletics website: https://www.englandathletics.org/clubhub/search/role/
Please see below a few ways you can help out:-
General Volunteers
The Club is always looking for more general volunteers to help. If you would like to help with any aspect of running the club, please contact us. You can do as much or little as you wish. We need help in several areas, for example helping coaches on training nights, Safeguarding volunteers, administration, assistance at our events/league matches such as handing out numbers, marshalling, raking the sandpit etc.
Coaches and Coaching Assistants
Training sessions cannot run without coaches, assistant coaches and helpers. The club is always in need of coaches from throwing, jumping to sprinting and distance running. Even raking the pit or holding a tape measure during a training session helps. The club can never have too many coaches and therefore will either contribute or pay in full for coaching qualification courses undertaken by those who are willing to coach for AFD. There are varying levels of coaches. All coaches are required by England Athletics to complete a DBS, check this also aligns with AFD’s safeguarding policy.
Officials
Officials are key to running athletic meetings. In most leagues there are points available for a full complement of officials. You can start to help the officials at an event without any qualification, just enthusiasm!
The club is always on the lookout for more officials. If you enjoy athletics and want to get more involved England Athletics run Officials courses. Some of these are online courses and give you a basic insight into being a qualified official such as a track judge, timekeeper, or field judge. The club will support you through the process and will pay the course costs.
Officials not only officiate local league matches but there are opportunities to go on and assist at regional, national championships and even Diamond League events such as the Anniversary Games!
Team Managers
AFD competes in several different leagues both track and field and cross country. We always have team manager and assistant team manager opportunities in track and field, sportshall, cross country relays and road running relays.
