AFD athletes delivered some strong performances and personal bests at the recent South of England U14/U16/U18 Championships held at Chelmsford on 27-28 June 2026, with 2 athletes picking up silver medals
Spencer Gibson delivered a brilliant performance in the U14 Boys 3000m Race Walk, to claim silver in 16:33.04 which was a PB.
Niamh Lumpkin, also picked up a silver medal in the U14 Girls Shot Put with a throw of 10.77m, and finished 5th in the Discus with a throw of 25.64m.
In the U14 boys’ 200m, sprinter Huxley Sherlock ran 27.31 to place 4th in his heat.
Harry Lyddon progressed from the U14 boys’ 800m heats with 2:12.20, later finishing 6th in the final in 2:08.82. In the U16 boys’ 800m heats, Jamie Joyner ran a PB of 2:05.36 to place 4th, while Toby Noble also set a PB, placing 3rd in his heat with 2:06.55.
In the U14 girls’ 800m, Isabelle Jane McNair ran 2:33.19 to finish 7th in her heat. Naomi Walmsley clocked 4:45.62 in the U16 girls’ 1500m heats and went on to place 8th in the final with 4:46.90.
In the U14 girls’ 1500m, Koko O’Neill won her heat in 4:49.14 and went on to finish 4th in the final with an improved time of 4:43.99. Lucy Scallan also qualified for the final after running 4:56.23, placing 8th and lowering her time to 4:55.25. Emily Walmsley recorded a personal best of 4:58.87, finishing 4th in her heat.
