AFD were the most successful club and won the Under 17 Women and Under 20 Men’s titles at the National Cross Country Relays on Saturday 1st November at Mansfield.
No other club won more than one title – and so AFD winning two titles made us the most successful club at the championships.
Under 17 Women
In the second event of the day the AFD team dominated the race. Tilly Robertson started well keeping the team in contention in 6th place, but only a few seconds behind the leader. She handed over to Sabrina Coppola Johansen who took the team upto 3rd place, before Kitty Scott brought us into the lead, running the fastest time of the day and extending our winning margin to nearly a minute.
Under 20 Men
From the moment Luca Hamblen took the lead with around 500m to go on first leg – we were clear in first spot – and Owen Smith maintained this lead on leg 2. Onjoro Sumba (pictured) on anchor leg, yougest of the team had a mature run to ensure we regained the title.
We also had strong showings across many other age groups. Our Senior Women just missed out on the podium, in fourth place.
Other teams making the top 10 were our Under 15 Girls in 5th, and our Senior Men and Under 13 Girls both in 9th.
Our next club cross country fixture is our home Hampshire League match on Saturday 15th November.
