9 AFD members have been selected for team GB to compete at the European CrossCountry Champs and both AFD men and womens teams have been selected to compete at theĀ European Clubs Cross Country Championships.
After a record breaking year in 2013 AFD cross country runners turned up to Sefton Park Liverpool on the 23rd November for the trial race for the European Cross Country Championships to be held in Belgrade on the 8th December, which also incorporated the run off between Welsh, Scottish and English contenders for the European Clubs Cross Country Cup.
While few of AFD younger athletes made the long trip to AFD we had a few representatives:
The under 17 womens race saw Daisy Denstos finish 20th
The under 17 mens AFD’s Bryn Smith was 65th
The under 20 womens field saw Emelia Gorgecka win by 12 seconds her 3rd consecutive under 20 trials race and along with club mate Amy Griffiths who was 3rd book her ticket to Belgrade European Championships.
AFD Grace Baker was 15th, Laura Gent18th, Rebecca Howard 36th and PoppyDisley 41st
In the Under 20 men’s race Jack Crabtree in 6th place was also selected for Belgrade, other AFD runners were: Tobias Smith in27th, Jack Rowe in 46th, Ben Bradley in 61st and Matthew Arnold in 88th.
The much anticipated Senior Women’s race, which incorporated the Under 23 (the UK sending teams in both age groups to Belgrade) saw:
Charlie Purdue claiming 2 nd in the race and 1st under 23
Steph Twell 3rd
Lily Partridge 4th and 2nd U23
Jessica Andrews 9th and 4th Under 23
In addition to all 4 being selected for GB , they finished ahead of either Central AC or Swansea AC the Scotish and Welsh contenders for European Clubs Cup, guaranteeing AFD represents UK at the Clubs cup.

In the Senior men’s race AFD’s Andy Vernon went into the lead which he kept to the finish.
Jonny Hay with a fast finish secured 2nd place and was the first U23, both booking there place to Belgrade.
Tom Wade came in in 15th
Adam Clarke in 36th closed in AFD team to defeat Central AC and Cardiff and ensure AFD men also represent UK at the European Clubs Cross Country Champs.

A fantastic performance from the AFD squad with 9 representing GB at the European Cross Country in Belgrade on the 8th December and both Women’s and men’s teams representing the UK at the European Clubs Cross Country Championships on Sunday 2nd February at Albufeira in Southern Portugal
