Several athletes made the journey round the M25 to compete in the South of England Championships held on 11-12 August at Lee Valley. There were golds for Edward Henderson, Ella Manning, Nicholas Hart and Chris Snook. Whilst Alfie Spear and Sue Davies picked up bronze medals. Full AFD results below:-

England Athletics U15 / U17 Championships Bedford 25-26 Aug 18
Several junior AFD athletes took part in the England U15/U17 Championships held in Bedford over bank holiday weekend. There was success for Luke Van Oudtshoorn and Will Barnicoat who took silver and bronze in U17 3000m and a bronze for Nicholas Hart in the U17 5000m walk.

British Masters Championships
Birmingham
25th – 26th August 2018
Also held over the August Bank holiday weekend, were the British Masters Championships. Several AFD masters athletes made the journey up to Birmingham where they picked up 4 golds, 4 silvers and 6 bronze medals. Mark Symes took gold in both the 800m and 1500m. Over in the field events, Allan Leiper who competed in several events took gold in the javelin and Kim Valente picked up gold in the long jump with a leap of 4.95m, even more impressive as she only took up the event this season.

World Masters Championships
Malaga, Spain
4- 16 Sept 2018
Several of AFD’s Masters athletes main the journey to Malaga in Spain to compete in the World Masters Championships at the beginning of September. Mark Symes picked up a fantastic gold in the 1500m. In the 100m Eni Font Freide ran a brilliant personal best of 14.02 in her semi final which also now places her 2nd on the W55 age group rankings. Kelly Roberts also ran a personal best in her 400m. Track & Field League Standings at the end of the 2018 season The Senior Mens & Womens Team came 9th in the Division 2 West of the Southern Athletics League and stay there for next season.
The Male Masters team were 2nd in the Southern Counties Vets League after a close fought battle with Southampton AC who once again took the title. The Female Masters team finished a fantastic 3rd in the Southern Counties Vets League having had their best season in 20 years! U13 and U15 boys and girls came 4th in the Southern West 2 of the UKYDL and stay there for next season.
U13, U15 & U17 boys and girls came 13th in the Wessex League.
