Hampshire County Championships at Basingstoke

Well done to all those that took part at the recent Hampshire County Championships!

AFD athletes delivered an impressive medal haul at the Championships, collecting a total of 10 medals including three golds, two silvers and five bronze medals in a strong performance.

In the U14 Girls events, Maria Oreoluwa Awoyode stormed to victory in the 100m final, crossing the line in a superb 13.04 seconds to take the gold medal. There was further success for Maria in the discus competition, where she claimed the silver with a throw of 27.19m and a bronze in the hammer with a distance of 33.42m.

Niamh Lumpkin produced a double gold medal performance in the field events, winning the U14 Girls javelin with a throw of 34.86m before claiming top spot in the shot with an impressive throw of 10.99m. Both these distances place her top 5 in the country.

On the track, Julia Smykala delivered a strong run in the U18 women’s 3000m final, earning silver medal position in a time of 10:41.89.

In the middle distance events, Florence Fry-Watson produced an excellent run to finish 3rd in the U14 girls 800m with a time of 2:28.55 earning a bronze medal. In the Senior men’s 800m Onjoro Sumba also claimed bronze with a time of 1:58.86.

Scarlett Taylor claimed bronze in the U16 Girls 80m hurdles clocking 12.21 and Adam Hey secured a bronze in the U18 men’s hammer with a throw of 36.22m.
