AFD Dominates National Cross Country

Aldershot Farnham & District’s runners travelled to Sedgefield and took more team titles than any other club at the English National Cross Country Championships on Saturday.  Two of the teams were led home by individual silver medallists.  Kitty Scott, last season’s under15s silver medallist, finished second in the u17s’ race where she was backed up by Sabrina Coppola Johansen, who was seventh, Otelia Garcia Davis (thirteenth) and Katie Ealden (nineteenth) for victory ahead of Rotherham Harriers.  Matt Pickering’s second place led William Smith, who was twelfth, Owen Smith (fourteenth) and Luca Hamblen (25th) to the honours ahead of Tonbridge in the junior men’s event.

Isabel Goodey de Diego was eighth, Koko O’Neill sixteenth, Evie Jones 23rd and Emily Walmsley 32nd for AFD’s title in the u13 girls’ competition where Bingley Harriers were runners up.  Poppy Guest was second to Gabby Pinder of New Marske Harriers, the defending champion in the u15 girls’ event.  AFD’s English Schools junior 800 metres champion gained another silver medal when Naomi Walmsley finished tenth, Amelie Sowerby 25th and Harriet Robertson 67th.  The club’s senior women also claimed the silver medals in their team competition.  Niamh Brown was fifth, Millie Jordan-Lee sixteenth, Maisie Grice 22nd and Harriet Preedy 36th.  In the senior men’s contest, Callum Charleston completed the top ten individual placings.
