The English School Athletic Association Championships
James Dargan ran to victory in the intermediate boys’ 3000 metres at the English Schools Championships on Saturday. The Aldershot Farnham & District athlete, who is coached by Mick Woods, beat Liam McCay of Liverpool Harriers by more than three seconds.
Emily Lucas clocked a personal best of 24.87 seconds for the silver medal in the intermediate girls’ 200 metres, finishing three hundredths behind City of York’s Freya Vidal. Emmeline Orbell recorded a pb of 2min 13.85 to take bronze in the junior girls’ 800. Katie Pye claimed her bronze in the junior 1500 where AFD club mate Lottie Quinn also made the final.
In addition to Emily Lucas, 2 other members of the Adrian Weston’s sprint group competed at the Championships: ‘Bellsie’ Honey reached the semi-finals after a superb run in the heat with a season’s best 12.55 in the 100m, into a headwind. Samara Afonughe narrowly missed out on a semi-final place after an impressive 12.50 in a strong heat, despite running faster than some of the automatic qualifiers.

All 3 of the sprinters ran in the 4x100m relays, representing Surrey, Samara leading off was part of the winning team with 47.70 securing the gold medal.
Representing Hampshire Bellsie, on the second leg and Emily leg three secured the bronze medal overall in a commendable time of 47.95.
The 3 sprinters came away with 4 medals.
