The u15 3000m walk and u17 5000m walk were combined as a straight final. There were three AFD representatives who had all qualified for this prestigious event, Tim Snook and Colin Zack in u17 5000m and Chris Snook in 3000m u15.
The race was contested by both male and female competitors with representatives present from Welsh and Irish athletics, allowing for a fast competitive race. From the gun a strong leading pack took chase on Irish walker Andrew Bell who led from the start, Tim sat comfortably in the pack for about 3km when he decided to kick from 4th placed Irish athlete Joseph Mooney, to start the reeling in of 2nd place Luc Legon from Bexley AC. Tim finishing incredibly strong pulled up to 3rd with a massive PB by 1 minute in 25.06.85; meanwhile Colin the youngest in the u17 age group was battling strong with an Irish walker passing 3km close to a seasons best, but slowed in the final stages of only his 2nd 5000m track walk finishing with a credible 6th. Chris in the u15s, started conservatively due to lack of competition exposure following a couple of months out early season with a serous injury however, increased his pace to achieve 2nd looking strong behind Irish athlete Gearoid McMahon. Coach Verity is very proud of all their achievements and looks forward to the Finale event of the season being the English Schools Championships in 3 weeks time (20th September 2014).
