Southern Cross Country Championships
Aldershot Farnham & District’s runners gained team medals in half of the events at the South of England cross country championships in London on Saturday. The final race of the day, for senior men, produced a set of gold for the sextet of Luke Prior (fifth), Ellis Cross (ninth), Callum Charleston (twelfth), Shaun Smith (twentieth), Sam Eglen (21st) and Phil Sewell (30th). There had been a victory for the under-17 women’s quartet of Pippa Roessler (eighth), Alice Garner (ninth), Rachel Gillett (27th) and Niamh McLoughlin (36th).
The closest the club came to an individual medal was in the senior women’s competition where Lauren Hall finished fourth when leading Emily Wicks, sixteenth, Katie Stevens, 34th, and Gintare Juknyte, 54th, to the silver medals. The u20 men’s team of Matthew Merrick, twelfth, Theo Doran, eighteenth, Joe Blacknell, twentieth, and Elliot Pocock, 37th, also came second. There were bronze medals for Dan Shattock, seventh, James Dargan, eleventh, Rudi Morrell, 27th, and Bertie Bruce-Gonzalez, 91st, in the u15 boys’ race.
