Aldershot, Farnham & District topped the table in six categories of the Hampshire Cross Country League when this season’s campaign was completed on Saturday. Lucy Pygott was one of five individual trophy winners. She won the senior women’s race at Dibden Inclosure, Applemore, from Niamh Brown, the runner who had beaten her to the South of England under-17 women’s title a fortnight earlier, and also led her club to victory in the u20s’ section.
Jack Boswell beat Robbie Coupland in the u17 men’s event and they finished first and second overall. AFD already had a commanding lead in the team competition, having won at three of the previous meetings, and were the only club to field the required three athletes in the finale. AFD provided the best team and individual competitor of the series in both the u15 and u13 boys’ age-groups. Max Heyden (u15) and Ryan Martin (u13) both won the final races to confirm their titles. Although defeated on the day, placing second to City of Portsmouth, AFD took the aggregate victory in the u13 girls’ competition. Matt Arnold was u20 men’s champion.
