Isobel Pooley achieved the qualifying standard for this year’s World Championships with a clearance of 1m 94 in the high jump at the European Team Championships. Another athlete from Aldershot, Farnham & District who recorded a season’s best in Russia at the weekend was Lily Partridge over 5000 metres.
The highest placed AFD member of Great Britain’s squad was Lennie Waite with second in her steeplechase behind Germany’s Gesa Felicitas Krause, a finalist at both the last World Championships and the London Olympics. Andy Vernon was third in the men’s 5000 metres and Oli Aitchison in the 1500, making his GB debut, was also third.
Meanwhile there were silver medals for AFD athletes in the England Athletics under 20 & 23 championships at Bedford: Amy Griffiths (1500), Grace Baker (3000 with a personal best) and Gus Cockle (5000) in the younger age-group and Laura Gent in the u23 women’s steeplechase.
