Four members of Aldershot, Farnham & District will be running for Britain at the European cross country championships in France on Sunday. Steph Twell was third in the trial behind Gemma Steel of Charnwood and Kate Avery of Shildon, the two athletes who battled to the line for the senior women’s title in Bulgaria last December. Jonny Hay is in the senior men’s team while Amy Griffiths and Grace Baker will contest the junior women’s event.
Four was also the number of AFD’s team victories at Saturday’s Hampshire cross country league meeting. Ryan Martin beat Sam Bodoano for the individual honours in the under-13 boys’ race by three seconds while Harry Hyde completed the scoring trio in fifth. The u13 girls’ trio comprised individual winner Charlie Parsons, Alice Garner, fifth, and Emily Squibbs, seventeenth. Jack Boswell took the u17 men’s competition, backed by Robbie Coupland in sixth and Ollie Percival in tenth. The club had the first three juniors home in the senior women’s event: Lucy Pygott (second overall), Stacey Burrows and Maisie Grice.
