Leanne Davies Steps Up                              Leanne Davies Steps Up

AFD Throws Squad sent 3 javelin throwers to English Schools this year, led by Leanne Davies. Last year Leanne came 9th as a bottom year in the U17 Women’s category. She has had her heart set on a medal ever since.

As Hampshire School’s silver medalist and a    b-string entrant, Leanne had a lot to prove. She opened up the competition throwing 39m, close to her PB, starting her campaign in the silver medal position.

When the top 8 made the cut earning them 3 more throws, the competition started to tighten. Davies was pushed off the podium position, down into 4th.

After trying to force her 4th and 5th round throws, Davies had 1 throw remaining. Perhaps it was the feeling of losing a medal position, or perhaps it was the belief accumulated over a year’s training; Leanne stepped up and produced a massive 4m (+10%) PB. In the final round the AFD thrower delivered a silver medal winning throw of 43m04, coming second only to the UK #1. Result pictured.

Leanne welled-up in tears, congratulated by training partner Katie Barrow, who placed 12th. Room-mate Katherine Abel also came 11th in the U15G Javelin event.

Leanne has earned her first England vest, and will represent the nation in Ireland at the School’s International this weekend.

Good luck for Saturday.

Go Go Go Leanne Davies !!!
