Lily Partridge, who was part of the Great Britain senior women’s team that took the gold medals at last month’s European cross country championships, outclassed the opposition in the Cardiff round of the UK challenge series on Sunday. She finished thirteen seconds before Sarah Astin, bronze medallist over 5000 metres at last summer’s England Athletics under-23 championships, who was also competing for Aldershot, Farnham & District. Louise Small made it three AFD runners in the top half dozen.
Other members of the club enjoyed success in county schools’ championships on Saturday. George Gathercole and Gus Cockle were senior boys’ winner and runner-up respectively in the Surrey event at Reigate where Niamh Brown triumphed over the rest of the intermediate girls. Marcus Shantry (junior boys) and Katie Shiel-Rankin (senior girls) were bronze medallists.
The club scored a one-two in the intermediate boys’ race at the Hampshire meeting. Jack Boswell headed Jake Cvetkovic by three seconds at Southampton. Nathan Gibson (senior boys) and Stacey Burrows (intermediate girls) gained silver medals and Bethany Heddle took bronze from the senior girls’ competition.
