AFD at European Cross Country Champs

AFD at European Cross Country Champs

The European Cross Country Championship at Belgrade on Sunday 8th december, started with the Women’s Junior (Under 20) race.  In the previous 3 years AFD Emelia Gorgecka had come 3rd, 1st and 2nd.  In this years race Emilia went straight to the front to dominate the race stretching the field out to win comfortubly to become the Under 20 European Cross Country Championships. Amy Griffiths AFD other athlete in this race  was 47th and the GB team were winners.

In the Mens Under 20 race Jack Crabtree AFD only representative in the GB team was 29th, in what was the largest field of the day, a realy good first international performance.

The firsts part of the Womens Under 23 Championships looked like a Polo fields training run with AFD’s Charlie Purdue and lilly Partridge leading the field.  Charlie ended up 3rd and Lilly 5th with other AFD representative in this category Jess Andrews 16th. The UK dominated the race winning the team Championships.


In the mens under 23 race Jonny Hay came 12th in what was a physical race (Jonny being punched), However Jonny help the GB team to Gold.

In the Senior Ladies race Steph Twell finished 12th and in the winning team.


In the mens race Andy Vernon put in a storming finish to take 3rd place on a photo and help the team gain a 3rd place team medals.

Congratulations to all 9 AFD runners who ran for GB in the European Cross Country Champs

Onwards to the next European championships, the club CC Championships in Albuferia, Portrugal, where AFD will be representing GB in both mens and womens races.
